The Salem Community High School Board has hired a new Assistant Principal. Current Social Studies teacher and department head Clint Wolfe will replace Kelly Conklin when she retires at the end of the school year.
Superintendent Dr. Brad Detering says Wolfe was one of 15 applicants for the position. Detering explains why he rose to the top of the pool.
“He’s taught basically every level of social studies, he coached multiple sports, he drives a bus, for the last 4 or 5 years he’s been the technology specialist relative to classroom instruction. We have two technology guys but Mr. Wolfe took care of the technology instruction and the professional development of our teaching staff. He has been instrumental in the success of our remote learning.”
Wolfe says he looks forward to his new role.
“It really is a pleasure to be able to stay committed to a place that I care a lot about, of course I graduated from here in 2000. I have worked there and coached and have had a lot of great kids and I really look forward to serve our community, those students and their families.”
The Assistant Principal is responsible for discipline in the school as well as assisting in teacher evaluation and supervision of activities. Wolfe received a three year contract.
The board approved a tax levy that is 4.9-percent higher than what was collected last year. Detering doesn’t expect the increase to be that much, but the rate will allow for the district to capture any new assessed valuation.
Detering reported attendance during November was 90-percent, about the same as last November before remote learning.
