A 43-year-old Salem man has been arrested by Salem Police for unlawful restraint, aggravated domestic battery, and aggravated assault following a Friday morning incident at his home.
Salem Police say the alleged female victim was able to come to the Salem Police Station after escaping from the man identified as Robert Clanton of Church Street. The woman told authorities she received multiple blows to the back of the head over several hours. She was also allegedly stabbed in the shoulder with a kitchen knife that Clanton used to hold her against her will. He also reportedly threatened to kill the woman.
She was able to get out of the home without Clanton noticing and walked the block to the police station. The alleged victim was then taken to Salem Township Hospital for treatment.
Police went to the home where the incident allegedly occurred and Clanton answered the door and went with police to the Marion County Jail where he is being held pending a final decision on charges.
