The City of Salem Public Works Department has announced the fall leaf vacuum program will be on Thursday, December 17th, weather dependent. Public Works Director John Pruden says every effort will be made to service the entire City of Salem each of the remaining weeks. As an alternative to the leaf vacuum service, any compost disposal can be bagged in brown compost bags for regular compost collection.
The regular compost collection is a once per week curbside pickup of compost bags throughout the entire year. By City ordinance, leaves and grass clippings are illegal to burn or discard to ditches or roads at any time in city limits.
Pruden is thanking all residents for their cooperation in utilizing the leaf vacuum and compost pickup services. All routes are serviced weekly due to the dedication of the workers. Leaf vac service will be held again in the spring, if necessary.
