The death toll from COVID-19 continues to rise rapidly with an additional 208 COVID-related deaths reported in Illinois on Saturday. That brings the total number of deaths in the state since the pandemic began to over 13,000 to 13,179.
The deaths include four in South Central Illinois. A female in her 70s and a male in his 90s in Clinton County and a female and male both in their 70s in Fayette County. In addition, two deaths, a male and female in their 90s, were reported in Effingham County.
There were another 9,887 cases reported. The Statewide positivity rate for the past seven days through December 4th is at 10.3-percent. The Southern Illinois Region 7 days positivity rate remains stable at 13-percent for the third day in a row. Marion County’s rate increased to 14.4-percent. The Metro East Region is at 14.2-percent positivity. The East Central Illinois Region positivity rate is at 12.5-percent.
The East Central Illinois Region has been under the 20-percent threshold for both Med-Surg and ICU beds for 11 days now. The Southern Illinois Region continues to see improved ICU statistics, with 19.8-percent of the beds available. 37-percent of Med-Surg beds are available in the region. The number of Med-Surg and ICU beds are both above the 20-percent threshold in the East Central Illinois Region.
