The Marion County Sheriff’s Department has arrested three people in Salem on felony drug charges.

Two were arrested following a traffic stop on West Main Street near Missouri Avenue.   The driver, 26-year-old Brittany Bunton of East Kerr in Centralia, and passenger, 31-year-old Kirk Johnston of Page Avenue in Odin, were both taken to the Marion County Jail for possession of a controlled substance.

After the sheriff’s department canine alerted on the vehicle, deputies say a search was conducted and a quantity of heroin and unidentified pills were recovered.

The vehicle had originally been stopped following a reckless driving complaint.

A 53-year-old Salem man was arrested by sheriff’s deputies for alleged possession of meth.   A deputy initially stopped Jerry Van Houtin of Markland Street for riding a bike after dark at Reel and Rig with no headlight.   While talking, Van Houtin allegedly threw a pill bottle to the ground that contained methamphetamine.
