New COVID-19 related deaths reported in Clinton and Fayette Counties; 38 new cases in Marion County

The Illinois Department of Public Health reported the second-highest number of COVID-19 related deaths in a single day on Thursday, only beaten by Wednesday’s total.  The 192 fatalities included a female in her 80s in Clinton County and a male in his 50s from Fayette County  Four more deaths were reported in Effingham County, males in their 70s and 80s and females in their 90s and over 100.  The report also lists three deaths in Marion County released on Wednesday by the local health department.

No new deaths were reported in Marion County on Thursday, but there were 38 new cases.  None were in long term care facilities.  Two are students.  One was not at school during their infectious period and contact tracing is underway on the other.  Of the 38 new cases, 23 are listed as community spread and 15 from household or close contacts.  All are on isolation.

There are now 334 active cases in Marion County, including 14 who are hospitalized.  Of those, two are on vents.  No residents were released from isolation on Thursday.

The Clinton County Health Department is reporting 38 new positive cases on Thursday.  There are currently 636 on home isolation and 19 who are in the hospital.

Jefferson County is reporting 66 new positive cases, including 14 long term care residents.   There are currently 285 active cases on isolation.

Fayette County Health Department is reporting 188 new cases, 136 of which are linked to a congregate facility outbreak.

The Clay County Health Department reported 40 new cases on Wednesday.

The Wayne County Health Department is reporting 16 new cases.  There are 120 currently isolating and six who are currently hospitalized.

Statewide, there were 10,959 new cases on Thursday.  The statewide positivity rate for the seven days ending December 2nd is 10.4-percent.  The Southern Illinois Region positivity rate is at 13-percent.   The Marion County rate has increased to 15-percent.  The Metro-East Region remains at 14.1-percent.  The East Central Illinois Region is at 12.1-percent.
