The 3a softball sectionals opened yesterday. At Freeburg, the host Lady Midgets continue to play well as they eliminate Effingham 4-2. They will get Waterloo in the finals after they upset top-ranked Marion 8-3.
At Charleston, the Lady Trojans lost to Chatham Glenwood 13-3 and Mt Zion over Rochester 4-1.
In 4a, Belleville West beat Edwardsville 7-1 to advance to the Pekin Sectional Finals where they will play Minooka after they eliminated Bradley Bourbonnais 10-0 in five innings.
