A 42-year-old Mt. Vernon man has been sentenced to 20 years in prison on a Class X felony charge of aggravated arson.
Troy Davis had entered an open guilty plea in October, that included a cap on the length of his prison term. After getting out of prison he will have to serve three years of mandatory supervised release.
The charge was filed following an investigation into an apartment complex fire in July 2022 at 2020 Broadway in Mt. Vernon. One person was treated for smoke inhalation following the fire.
Davis wasn’t arrested until a week and a half after the fire when he was taken into custody on a Jefferson County warrant while in Indianapolis Indiana. He’s remained in the Jefferson County Jail since being returned to the state in lieu of $500,000 bond.
