Salem knocked off visiting Mt Zion in prep baseball yesterday 1-0 in a pitcher’s duel that Noah Nix won.  He allowed 2 hits and struck out 9 needing just 88 pitches for the game, 62 of them were strikes.  At the plate, Salem scored their lone run in the bottom of the fifth.  Rhett Detering opened with a single and Keaton Gullion worked a one-out walk moving him to scoring position.  Jalen Inlow came away with a big RBI single and that is all the offense the game would see.  Nix and Gavin Zimmermann added the other singles for Salem.

The Wildcats are back on the road today to take on Mattoon in a preview of next week’s 3a Salem Regional opener that will be played in Salem.  The Wildcats enter with a record of 14-16 while the Green Wave has a record of 15-15.  After today, Salem will travel to Centralia on Wednesday in an added game to their schedule before hosting Olney on Thursday.
