The Centralia City Council Monday night will be asked to award bids on construction of a new water treatment plant and new raw water line to Carlyle Lake.

The low bids received earlier are being recommended to the council for approval.  They include a $27,881,971 bid from Korte and Luitjohan Contractors of Highland for construction of the new water plant.  The other two low bids are from Haier Plumbing and Heating, Inc.  One is a $4,132,798 bid to construct the raw water mains to the new water treatment plant and arterial water mains from the new water treatment plant to the existing system.  The other is a $1,454,699 bid to replace the raw water transmission main from Boulder Pump Station to Quick Road.

The council will also consider an ordinance amendment authorizing the City of Centralia to borrow funds from the Public Water Supply Loan Program through the Illinois EPA.   The loan will be used to cover any shortfall in funding from grants and a surcharge placed on all Centralia and satellite customers the last few years.

Another bid before the council would make roofing improvements to the Centralia Community Youth Center which has seen some water damage from a leaking roof.  Holmes Construction has bid $38,400 to complete the project.

The council will also consider the sale of more than acre of land along South Locust south of the Historical Museum.  The Centralia Foundation has bid the appraised amount of $45,000 for the vacant parcel.

The meeting gets underway at six Monday night at Centralia City Hall.
