The Salem Wildcats knocked off the Conference’s top team, the Roxana Shells, 5-4 at SCHS Field yesterday. After Roxana took a 2-0 lead in the top of the 3rd, Salem answered with 3 runs in the bottom of the inning. They extended that lead to 5-2 after 2 runs in the 4th. Roxana made a run in the 7th scoring twice, but Salem turned a 4-6-3 double play to finish the game. Salem got RBI from Ryan Detering, Keaton Gullion and Gavin Zimmermann. Aden Bass singled and scored twice. Zimmermann was the complete game winner striking out 3 and allowing 5 hits and just 1 earned run. The win clinches 4th place in the league for Salem. Roxana now is a game behind Columbia who still has 2 games left to play next week due to rain outs.
The Salem JV traveled to Roxana and came home with a 13-1 short-game win. Brody Collier dominated on the mound allowing 1 hit and struck out 10. At the plate, Salem got RBI from Keytin Grawe, Carter Lowe, Evan Barnes and Aaden Rostance. Salem got a 3-3 day from Eli Lograsso who added 3 runs. Avery Gullion and Colton Rogers scored twice along with Max Vincent who also singled.
The Christ Our Rock Stallions hosted Brownstown/St Elmo and held them off for a 5-3 victory. Omari King doubled in the win and scored a run. Jayde Bazile, Hanke and Christian Nollman added RBI. Parker Boehne was the winning pitcher going all 7 innings scattering 5 hits and allowing 1 earned run with 6 strikeouts.
The SC Cougars fell on the road to Newton 2-1. Callaway Smith was 2-4 and Hudson Moore had 2 hits for SC. Colton Smith drove in the only Cougar run. Callaway Smith was the pitcher of record for SC going 6 innings allowing 6 hits and 1 earned run with 4 strikeouts. SC returns to play today against the top ranked team in Class 1a, Father McGivney, who is coming off an 11-inning, 7-6 win at St Anthony yesterday.
