Despite the good turnout and record early voting, Marion County Clerk Steve Fox says the percent of voters going to the polls fell short of his 78-percent estimate. Instead, he says the turnout was similar to the last Presidential Election.

“We are right at 69% across the entire county so right in line with what 2016 presidential election was.  We did have some delays at the end.  We had 3 precincts…two that had to re-tabulate their ballots to make sure their counts were correct and one precinct that had to go back and get a memory card from one of the machines.  It happened to be one of the farthest away so we had about an hour delay waiting on that.”

Marion County was able to wrap up the results by about 11:30. He reports no major issues at any of the polling places.

Fox says the post office brought additional mail-in ballots to the office six times on Tuesday as part of an effort by the postal service to get as many of the mail-in ballots as possible delivered by election day. About 60 in all were delivered on Tuesday.

Fox notes mail-in ballots will be accepted for the next 14 days provided they were postmarked on Tuesday, November third, so voting tallies could still change slightly.
