The City of Centralia received only one bid for construction of new waterlines to connect the site of the new water plant on West Greet Street with the distribution center at the current plant.
While there was only one bid, it was near the engineers estimate. Haier Plumbing and Heating of Okawville bid $4,132,798 on the project.
The bid will now be reviewed by Curry and Associates before a recommendation is made to the city council on whether to approve it.
Earlier this week, the council opened bids on the construction of the new water plant. Korte and Luitjohan of Highland was apparent low bidder at $27-million-882-thousand dollars. While that was over the engineer’s estimate, City Manager Kory Smith felt the bid was satisfactory.
Another bid opening is set for next week on construction of a new raw line from Boulder on Carlyle Lake to the new water plant.
The bids are expected to go to the Centralia City Council in late May or June for approval, with construction beginning as soon as November.
The city of Centralia is still seeking additional grant money to reduce the local cost of the project.
