A fire burned 12 to 15 acres of woods northwest of Salem on Friday night.
Salem Fire Protection District officials say the fire in the 5500 block of Woodard School Road started from an unattended burn pile and moved through a wooded area where several standing trees were set on fire.
A passerby first discovered the fire at 7:30 Friday night. Firemen were on the scene for about two and a half hours putting out the fire.
