Illinois State Police say a truck driver escaped injury when the cab of his truck was struck by a wheel that separated from an unknown truck. The incident occurred on the northbound lanes of I-57 just north of Route 161.
Preliminary information indicates the tire that separated from an unknown vehicle struck a front wheel on the cab. The impact caused the truck to run into the ditch and the cab to separate from the frame. The separated cab came to a stop after overturning on its top.
Salem Fire Protection District Firemen had to remove the windshield from the cab to free the out of state driver. After being checked at the scene, he declined hospital treatment.
The crash occurred at 5:12 Thursday afternoon.
