Salem Boys Track Shows Well At First Outdoor Home Meet

The Salem Wildcats opened their outdoor season with a home meet at Jim Finks Field yesterday.  Mount Vernon nipped Salem to win the meet 73.5 to 71.5 with Centralia 3rd with 34 points.

Winning events for Salem were Caleb Smith in the shot and discus, Miking Ettress won the long jump, Connor Tennyson the triple jump and Hunter Malan the 1600.  Also the 4×100 team of Ettress, Sam Greene, Tennyson and Sean Thornton won along with the 4×800 team of Caidien Beer, Alex Spencer, Hunter Malan and Robbie Shober.

Salem’s Avery Gullion cleared 5-10 and was 2nd in the high jump with Payton Gullion also clearing his PR of 5-10 to finish 4th after misses.  Also taking 2nd were Marquis Ettress in the long jump, Branson Pappas 3200, Riley Tate triple jump, Spencer in the 800, Thornton the 300 intermediate hurdles, Shober 1600.  Also 2nd were the 4×400 team of Spencer, Malan, Shober and Beer along with the 4×200 team of Ettress,Greene, Tennyson and Thornton.
