The Mount Vernon Rams upset East St Louis last night to advance to the Sweet 16 and will play arch rival Centralia for the crown tomorrow night at Triad. The Rams won 70-64 as Marlon Price was amazing in the win. It sets up the 3rd meeting of the year between the Orphans and Rams, with both teams winning a game this season. The Orphans enter at 31-2, the Rams are 24-9. The winner of that game advances to the Springfield Super Sectional next week to play either Mt Zion or MacArthur after the Braves came back to beat Rochester last night at Lincoln 58-51.
Bazile’s Buzzer Beater Lifts Stallions Over State Ranked Tuscola
Jayden Bazile hit an off balanced three-pointers from near the top of the key as time expired lifting the Christ Our Rock Stallions into the Sectional finals knocking off state ranked Tuscola 49-46 to head to the finals of the St Anthony Sectional tomorrow night. The Stallions won their first ever regional title last week and will try to continue their historic run tomorrow when they take on Arcola.
Defending 1a state champion Waterloo Gibault only has 2 returning seniors from last years championship run. They were the underdogs last night as they upset 4th ranked Goreville to win at NCOE 51-44. They advance to play Mounds Meridian for a trip to the Elite 8. Gibault coach Dennis Reuter is a coaching legend with over 800 career wins.
Benton v. Central Has All The Makings Of A Classic
In 2a, Benton dominated Wesclin to win their semifinal at home 59-35 to set up a matchup with top-ranked Breese Central tomorrow for the Sectional title. Also in 2a, TTown beat Tolono Unity at Shelbyville 48-39. The Shoes will play St Joseph Ogden tomorrow for that title.
