A controlled burn got out of hand Thursday afternoon and spread to an abandoned home already being torn down in northwest Jefferson County.
Centralia Fire Protection District Assistant Chief Ross Boshara says their main concern was protecting the home of Larry Bundy of 23547 North Baldridge Lane in rural Centralia that was only ten feet away. He reports they were successful, but radiant heat did cause damage to the side of the home closest to the fire.
Boshara says it took a lot of water to put out the blaze in what amounted to a large pile of wood from the home.
Kell Firemen provided mutual aid assistance.
The fire call came in at 12:36 Thursday afternoon. Firemen were on the scene until around three pm.
