For the second time in less than a week, the daily COVID-19 death toll in Illinois has surpassed 40.

The latest figures show 42 people, ranging in age from 40s to 90s died from coronavirus in the past day.

There were 47 deaths last Friday, the highest number since late June.  State Public Health Director Doctor Ngozi Ezike urges everyone to do their part to help stop the spread of the virus.

“With this COVID-19 season and flu season, wear your mask, wash your hands, get your flu shots, and watch your distance.”

The state is reporting more than 2600 new cases, and over 1600 COVID patients are currently in the hospital.
