A fast-moving fire destroyed an Odin home early Tuesday evening.

Odin Fire Chief Greg Smith says the Guy Cheatum home at 301 East Chestnut was fully engulfed in flames upon their arrival.

“First got here we had heavy fire showing out the front door and front porch and then on both windows on the west side and rear of the house.  The homeowner was home at the time.  He was alerted to smoke in the kitchen and that’s when he found the back porch portion of the house on fire and it rapidly spread.  I believe from what I can see now it probably went up and got in the attic and went across and that’s why it spread so rapidly.”

Smith believes the fire is electrical in nature, but the State Fire Marshal will further investigate the cause on Wednesday.

There were no injuries.

Odin received automatic mutual aid from Salem and also called Sandoval for assistance at the scene and Centralia City Firefighters to stand by at the Odin station in the event of another fire.

The fire call came in around six Tuesday night. Firemen were on the scene for about two hours.
