The IHSA and its member schools have voted down a proposal that would have significantly changed football scheduling in the state moving forward. Proposal 18 would have established districts in football using geography and class instead of the usual qualifying process. 8 districts in each class would have been in each district with those games played Weeks 3-9 of the regular season. The top 4 would of qualified for the playoffs. This failed on Tuesday by a vote of 379-272. According to the IHSA this was the highest voting total of schools in over a decade at just over 89% of members participating.
Another item of note to come out of the meeting was members created the opportunity for football teams to conduct a pre-season scrimmage with another school with specific limitations.
