A 26-year-old homeless Salem man has been charged in Marion County Court with burglary without causing damage, possession of a stolen vehicle, and possession of under five grams of methamphetamine.

Edward Kinney was arrested by Salem Police Tuesday afternoon in a traffic stop on Route 37 North allegedly inside the stolen vehicle.  Police say the vehicle had been stolen earlier in the day from the 500 block of East McMackin Street.   Police reported an attempt had also been made to use a debit card that belonged to the owner of the vehicle.

Kinney had been arrested over the weekend in another vehicle that reportedly had been stolen in Salem, but he was released from the Marion County Jail on Monday with charges not being filed against him.   Salem Police reported that the vehicle had not been reported stolen before Kinney was allegedly found in the vehicle in Sandoval.

Salem Police say with recent burglary and vehicle theft cases, they are encouraging residents to lock up their vehicles and property.
