Jerry Lloyd Piercy, 83, of Centralia, passed away at 4:52 a.m., Thursday, October 26, 2023, at SSM Health St. Mary’s Hospital, in Centralia.
He was born November 19, 1939, in Centralia, Illinois, the son of Lloyd and Ada (Hails) Piercy. On June 24, 1960, in Boyd, he married Vera Jane Walker, and she survives.
Jerry worked at the Illinois Central Railroad and later retired from Tri-County Electric Cooperative. He attended Grand Prairie Grade School and graduated from Woodlawn High School. He served as a deacon and elder for many years at Fouts Christian Church and also served on the Church Board and the Fouts Cemetery Board. He enjoyed playing softball, basketball, boxing, and riding motorcycles, and he especially enjoyed riding with his good friend, Mike Geralds. He also enjoyed camping and walking through the woods with his good friend, Jerry Wilson. He was quick to say that he loved his family, and they meant more to him than anything in the world. He will be sadly missed.
In addition to his wife of 63 years, Vera Jane Piercy, he is survived by two sons, Donnie Piercy and wife Karla of Centralia, and Shane Piercy of Centralia; grandson, Holden Kurwicki and wife Paige of O’Fallon, Illinois; brother, Jim Piercy of Dix; special friends, Mary and Albert Sides; and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
Funeral services for Mr. Piercy will be held at 11:00 a.m., Tuesday, October 31, 2023, at Fouts Christian Church, with Jerry Wilson and Jonathan Schnautz officiating. Burial will follow at Fouts Cemetery. Visitation will be held Monday, October 30, 2023, from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m., at the Osborn Funeral Home in Dix.
