The Centralia City Council approved a resolution to begin the process of obtaining a solar power system connected to the planned construction of a new water treatment plant. The board authorized the execution of a consulting agreement with Satori Enterprises to explore options for the system.

Sidewalk ramp improvements along portions of South Sycamore and Pine streets will go forward as the council accepted a bid from Shores Builders for $193,682. The project was reduced to just the sidewalk work after the lone bid that came in for some street resurfacing was higher than budgeted.

The board accepted a grant from the Illinois Housing Development Authority’s Strong Communities Program amounting to $357,000 which can be used to acquire and revitalize vacant properties and demolish properties which are beyond repair, with the aim of promoting new investment in the areas around those properties.

A resolution was passed to purchase new mobile radios for the police department. These new digital radios will replace the department’s older analog radios and enable more reliable communications for officers on the job. According to an officer present at the meeting, the old radios were over fourteen years old and due for replacement.

Lastly, the council approved a disbursement of funding to Meadow Woods Holdings per an existing development agreement in the form of a combined tax rebate totaling $279,490.
