The Odin Village Board has filed a $250,000 state grant request under the Safe Routes to School Program.
Mayor Greg Smith says if approved they want to install several sidewalks.
“If we get that grant approved we are looking at replacing the sidewalk in front of the school and adding 2 new sidewalks on Spruce and Everett Streets to allow kids in public housing to walk to school safely on a sidewalk as opposed to down a road or an alley.”
The grant request also includes new lighting standards in front of the school to light it up at night.
Smith hopes to hear if the grant request is approved by sometime in January.
The village would have to provide some matching funds for the grant.
