Lisa Ann Shumate, 33, of Centralia passed away on September 30th, 2023 with her family by her side. She is now free of the pain that cancer has caused her.

She was born on November 8th, 1989 to Dana T. Wert and William A. Shumate in San Bernardino California.

She is survived by her mother Dana T. Wert of Centralia, IL; siblings John Shumate of Missouri, Sean O’Brien of Colorado, Katie O’Brien of Kentucky, Garbal Mifflin of Louisiana, and Ayden Wert of Centralia; half-siblings Loura Shumate of Florida and William Shumate of Illinois; grandfather Lloyd Wert and significant other Fran Garrison; foster family Willie Miller and family; uncles Philip Wert and family of Centralia and Todd Wert, wife Lynda and family of Houston Texas.

She is preceded in death by her brother Walter A. Shumate, grandma Beverly Wert, and great grandparents Harold and Millicent Wert.

Lisa was of the Christian faith and attended church through the years. She was a volunteer at Greenview Christian Church in the Awana program and at New Life Harvest Church with the homeless shelter program. Lisa was fiercely loyal to family and friends. She loved hard those who she considered family. She was honest to a fault, kind, loving, and if you were family- loved to give hugs. She was an innocent, gentle soul that life took too soon. She loved to draw, write stories, journal, make crafts, listen to music, play video games with her brothers, and read. She loved to take walks. She was fascinated with clothing and different cultures, especially Japan. She also loved watching super hero movies and especially fascinated with Disney Princesses. She loved soft blankets and plushies. She almost always left you with the phrase “Be Safe or God Bless”.

Cremation rites for Lisa will be accorded and a Celebration of Life Service for Lisa will be held on Thursday, October 5, 2023 from 6:00 to 7:00pm at the Rock Church in Centralia. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations can be made to the family, checks made payable to Dana Wert, and will be accepted at Sutherland-Garnier Funeral Home at 235 North Sycamore Street, Centralia IL 62801 (618) 532-3523, who is honored to be of service to the Shumate/Wert family.
