Jon Joseph Thomas of Mustang Oklahoma passed away on July 22, 2023, at Hospice House in Oklahoma City. Jonnie Joe, as he was known until he was old enough to say, “My name is Jon”, was born on October 25, 1955, to Burton and Zota (Rich) Thomas in Centralia, IL.
He attended Central School and graduated from CTHS in 1973. Jon loved the Mets, even when they were losing, and for years he would take all of their statistics and tell you how each player did in each area.
He married Cynthia Bates in 1979 and they relocated to Oklahoma City. In 1982, they welcomed a daughter, Heather, and in 1984, his son Justin arrived. Jon coached baseball for several years while his children played the sport and he always enjoyed fishing. He loved visiting Colorado for vacations.
Jon worked for York International for thirty years. In his later years of employment, he was a supervisor of materials in the air conditioning unit. Due to some severe hip problems, he retired in 2016 and enjoyed time with Cindy and the “Super Dog, Jake”.
Jon is survived by his wife, Cindy, his daughter Heather, and granddaughter Annabelle of Austin, Texas. He is also survived by his son Justin, of Los Angeles, California, his brother, Augie Thomas, of Centralia, and his sister, Diana Hess Pohlod, of Thomasboro in addition to his two nieces and their families. In addition, he is survived by his sisters-in-law, Dana Martin and the family of Colorado Springs, CO, and Glennda Smith and her family of Marion, IL.
After the news of his passing was posted on Facebook, several friends commented as to how kind and nice Jon was to them.
