The City of Salem has announced the first-ever dog swim planned to end the season for the Salem Aquatic Center on Sunday has been canceled, but the Animal Control Family Swim Fundraiser event will still occur from noon to three.
The fundraiser allows everyone to pay $5 to enter the pool. As part of the admission, they get a hotdog and a bottle of water. All proceeds will be directed to the trap/neuter/release and medical emergency funds. Pool passes will not be accepted on Sunday.
Animal Control has also arranged for some great attendance prizes.
City officials say the dog swim was canceled after no one went through the registration process for their dog.
While it seems early for the pool to close, the city will have no help available to run the pool once school starts next week. The Aquatic Center will reopen next Memorial Day Weekend.
The pool will be open during its regular general swim hours on Saturday, from eleven to six.
