The Salem Youth Football Wildcats opened up their season and new conference on Saturday with a sweep of visiting Centralia Red Storm.
The varsity won 40-14. Troy Keele, Kyler King and Rylan Lawson all had touchdowns with quarterback Scout Puricelli adding a 2-point conversion. Silas Lux and Colton Pitty each had a sack with Kade Orell getting pressure on the quarterback all night. Owen Tennyson and Drake Rector each controlled the defense with pass break ups. The O-Line of Maddox Kaminski, Cameron Slater, Rector, Tripp Garden, Pitty, Silas Lux and Caleb Squibb paved the way to 5 rushing scores and controlling the game all night. Salem will play at Carbondale on Saturday.
The JV won 38-6. Ben Lux, Emitt Gibson and Tanner Purintun scored touchdowns with Davion Garrison also running well.
The 3rd/4th grade scrimmage ended in a 6-6 tie with Trent Thompson and Braxton Harris each scoring for their respective teams.
