The Salem 15u Wildcats finished up their summer of baseball in with an exciting walk-off win over Gaetti’s Sports Academy in the consolation game of the Breese 15u Tournament.
Playing their 3rd game in a row, Salem found themselves down 7-2 after the opening two innings. But the Cats started to chip away until they saw themselves down 8-6 heading into their final at bat. Avery Gullion started the rally with a one-out single and advanced to 3rd on a throwing error that allowed Aaden Rostance to reach base and get to 2nd. CJ Allison then drove a ball to the outfield allowing Gullion to score making it 8-7. Charlie Shupe then tied the game with a single before Alijah Carroll came up with 2 outs and the winning run at 3rd. He hit a sharp single through the defense to send Salem fans home happy 9-8. Carter Lowe was the complete game winner allowing 8 hits and 5 earned runs with 6 strikeouts. At the plate, Brendan Smith drove in a pair of runs with Payton Gullion scoring twice.
Salem opened the tournament with a 10-3 loss to the Midwest Scorpions. Payton Gullion went 2-3 with an RBI. Avery Gullion and Rostance also drove in runs and Carter Lowe scored twice.
Salem lost to the Staunton Bulldogs 11-6 late. Payton Gullion allowed 5 earned runs in 4 innings of work and struck out 6. Alijah Carroll had 2 hits and 2 RBI to lead the offense with Colton Rodgers and Kyler King also adding RBI and Rodgers and Avery Gullion doubled.
