Jefferson County Coroner Roger Hayse has identified the person killed in an SUV rollover crash on I-57 south of Mt. Vernon as a seven-year-old Memphis, Tennessee girl.
The coroner says Keyli Yulisa Chanchez-Ramos of Memphis, Tennessee was thrown from the vehicle and died from traumatic brain injury. She was pronounced dead on the scene.
Hayse says Keyli was traveling with her mom, dad, two sisters, and two others when for unknown reasons the SUV ran off the side of the southbound lanes, overcorrected, crossed both southbound lanes, and overturned in the median.
Hayse was told by the family the group was headed to Memphis after picking up a person in Chicago for a Fourth of July celebration.
The other six that were injured were transported to Mt. Vernon hospitals for treatment.
The crash was reported at 5:05 Tuesday morning. State Police say at approximately 7:28 a.m., both southbound lanes of I-57 were shut down for the traffic crash investigation. Both lanes reopened to traffic at about 8:50 Tuesday morning.
