The Salem Fire Protection District was called out Wednesday morning to contain 60 gallons of spilled diesel fuel at the northbound Post Oak Rest Area on I-57 south of Salem.
Assistant Fire Chief Bill Fulton says the diesel spilled from a truck left running to keep the air conditioner on while the driver slept. When the driver woke up, she discovered the spilled fuel.
The truck had undergone repairs in Texas and apparently, part of the fuel system was not tightly put back together.
Fulton says firemen used oil dry to soak up the gas. It did not spread off the pavement. The trucking company then called a cleanup service to remove the saturated oil dry.
The truck was towed from the scene for repairs.
The fire call came in at six Wednesday morning.
