The Salem Community Band and Choir will join Salem’s Bicentennial Celebration with a Friday night performance celebrating music education in Salem Public Schools.
Band Director Matt Webster says the performance will feature selections played in the past by the Salem Community High School and Junior High bands as well as vocal numbers performed by the SCHS Choirs.
“We will have several pieceds the band will play. Many were contest pieces that were played by the high school in the past. The end of the concert will be patriotic section so we will have some things getting into the fourth of July celebration. We will have some joint pieces with the choir, and some of those will be patriotic such as the Battle Hymn of the Republic.”
Webster says the community band and choir have been gearing up for the Bicentennial event since their Christmas Concert at the Salem Theatre.
The concert will begin at seven Friday night at Salem Community High School at B.E. Gum Gymnasium.
Admission is free but a free-will donation in support of the continued efforts of the Salem Community Band and Choir will be taken.
