Both the Salem City Gas crew and the Salem Fire Protection District were called to the home of Samantha Bishop in the 300 block of South Castle Street Wednesday morning.
Salem Fire District Assistant Deputy Chief Greg Miller was first on the scene.
“Gas crew got here to check for a leak, opened the door, smelled the smoke, and called us. Our crew got here, went in, and got to the basement and the only thing they found was a sump pump that was overheated causing the smell.”
Miller says there was no fire.
Both Odin and Kell responded on automatic mutual aid.
The fire call came in at 7:34 Wednesday morning.
