2023 06/27 – Alexander ‘Tyrod’ Korzenewski

Alexander “Tyrod” Korzenewski, a resident of Abilene since 1953, died Friday, June 16, 2023, at his home.

Born April 15, 1928, in Glenridge (Junction City) Illinois, he was the son of the late Joseph Korzenewski and Anna Puleikus Korzenewski.   He graduated from Sandoval High School, Sandoval, Illinois where he excelled in basketball.   He graduated in 1946 and joined the U S Navy and was stationed at Whiting Field Naval Air Station, Florida where he was a telephone operator and played basketball for the Whiting Bombers. He later attended The University of Southern Illinois.  He went to work with Hack Drilling Company in Illinois.    The company later moved to West Texas during the oil boom of the ’50s. He met and married Pat Lane of Cross Plains, Texas May 17, 1953. They moved to Abilene later that year.  He continued in oil field work until his retirement in 1988.

He was the last of seven siblings including, Ann Piasse, Joe Korzenewski, John Korzenewski, Tony Korzenewski, Marie Tuel, and Frank Korzenewski.  Survivors include his wife of 70 years, Pat Korzenewski; two sons, Alex Ray Korzenewski and wife Claire-Jean of Denton Valley and Mike Korzenewski and wife Angie of Irving; four grandchildren, Tricia Hayes and husband Brad of Water Valley, Texas, J. Mark Korzenewski and wife Bailey of Fort Worth, Alexa Hamilton and husband Ryan of Phoenix, Arizona, and Rebecca Weldon and husband Justin of Houston; eight great-grandchildren, Kenna D. Hayes, Harper Korzenewski, Madeline Hamilton, Alexander Weldon, Charlotte Korzenewski, Henry Weldon, Owen Hamilton, and Charles Weldon.

Visitation will be held from 6:00-8:00 pm Monday, June 26, 2023, at the Sutherland-Garnier Funeral Home Centralia, Illinois. Burial will be at 11:00 am Tuesday, June 27, 2023, at Calvary Cemetery in Centralia.
