The Salem 12u Wildcats won the Effingham Memorial Day Wood Bat Tournament beating Jasper County 4-2 on a walk-off homer from Zane Applegate. Jared Crompton doubled in the win. Bentley Bryan and Jax Schaubert drove in runs. Applegate was the winning pitcher going the complete game allowing 8 hits and struck out 6.
Salem won their opening game on Sunday beating Effingham 7-0. Applegate had 3 hits and 3 RBI, also driving in runs were Bryan, Colton Tockstein and Tripp Garden. Owen Tennyson had 2 hits and scored 3 runs. Tockstein, Bryan and Crompton pitched in the shutout.
The tournament opened on Friday night with a 5-2 win over TTown. Aaron and Crompton doubled. Salem got RBI from Tennyson, Tockstein, Garden and Drew Consolino. Kai Graham had 2 hits and a run. Graham and Schaubert pitched in the win.
Salem then played 2 games on Saturday beating Mattoon 10-0. Graham and Tennyson doubled. Consolino drove in 3, Tennyson 2 with RBI each from Garden, Crompton, Applegate, Tockstein and Garden. Schaubert was the winning pitcher.
Salem also beat Jasper County 4-3. Garden doubled and scored with RBI from Crompton, Tennyson, Applegate and Bryan. Crompton, Tockstein and Applegate combined for the win on the mound.
