The Salem Lady Wildcats will open up the Freeburg Softball Sectionals this afternoon taking on the host Midgets. Salem fell to Freeburg 7-2 on April 4th at Tully Park and then recently on May 9th they lost at Freeburg 3-0. Salem is 24-7 on the season while the Lady Midgets are an impressive 31-1 and coming off a no-hit 6-0 win over Breese Central to win the Althoff Regional where the starter struck out 20 of the 21 hitters she faced.
Also in 2a sectional semifinals at Pinckneyville it’s Carterville playing Hamilton County. At Tolono Unity, the day starts with St Anthony taking on Bloomington Central Catholic followed by the hosts and Marshall.
In 1a Sectional semifinals this afternoon, South Central will host NTC rival Windsor/Stew-Stras. Okawville will play the hosts at Hardin Calhoun.
The Centralia Annies opened up the regionals with a road win at Olney 1-0. They will return home today for semifinal play against Charleston. Also at Civic Memorial Highland plays Mascoutah followed by Triad and the hosts. Jerseyville hosts East St Louis. Herrin plays the hosts at Marion.
High School Baseball Post Season
The 3a baseball regionals opened up last night with Mattoon shutting out Olney 10-0. Today in semifinal play at Jerseyville it’s Triad and Taylorville followed by the hosts and Highland. Marion welcomes Cahokia, Carbondale takes on the Rams in Mount Vernon, and Mattoon and Marion play at Olney.
