In 1a, The South Central Cougars won their 16th regional, all under Coach Curt Jones, after winning on their home field Saturday night over Dieterich 4-1. Aidan Dodson went 3-4 with a run scored and the Cougars got RBI from Anthony Buonaura, Andrew Magnus, Calaway Smith and Ethan Watwood. Dodson was the winning pitcher allowing 1 hit and striking out 10 in the complete game victory. The Cougars advance to this week’s Altamont Sectional where they will play Arcola after they beat Windsor/Stew-Stras to win the Tuscola finals 3-2.
Also in 1a, St Anthony survived a 12-inning classic in beating Altamont to win the Brownstown Regional 6-5. Waltonville/Sesser-Valier knocked off the hosts at Trico 3-2.
The 3a baseball regionals open today with Mattoon hosting Olney.
