The Salem Wildcats erase their 19-16 regulars season record and go back to 0-0 as they travel to the Greenville 2a Regional this afternoon for a 4:30 first pitch against the host Comets. Noah Nix will get the ball for the Wildcats coming off his dominant start against Waltonville/Sesser Valier and a relief appearance against Murphysboro on Monday. The winner will play on Saturday in the regional finals for a trip to the Breese Central 2a Sectionals next week. The winner today will play in Saturday’s regional final against Teutopolis after they knocked off 2-seed Flora yesterday at Greenville 3-0.
Also in 2a today, Wesclin and Central play at Columbia, Mater Dei takes on the hosts at Roxana and Freeburg travels to Sparta for a date with the hosts.
In 2a regional games yesterday, Zeigler beat Carterville 1-0 at Carterville, Columbia got a 2-run walk off homer from Dominic Voegele to keep their season alive in a 4-3 win over Alton Marquette. Harrisburg won at home over Massac County 5-1, Father McGivney won their Roxana opener over Wood River 13-2.
