The Salem Wildcats wrapped up their regular season with a loss at home to Murphysboro 5-3. The Devils scored a pair of unearned runs in the fifth that cost them. Noah Nix doubled for Salem as he scored and drove in a run. Jalen Inlow and Josh Powless also had RBI. Aden Susmena and Gavin Zimmermann had a hit and scored, Drew Davis continued his hot hitting going 2-3 and Isaak Williams had a single. Griffin Day threw 6 innings allowing 4 hits and 3 earned runs. Nix worked the final inning striking out 2 and working a clean inning with just 9 pitches. Salem is 19-16 on the season and will open up the Greenville Class 2a Regionals on Thursday when they take on the host Comets.
The 2a regionals opened up yesterday with Marquette beating Althoff 7-4, Carterville over Benton 3-1, Pinckneyville beat Chester 9-7, Fairfield over Hamilton County 5-4 in 8-innings, Marshall beat Robinson 9-6, Roxana beat Hillsboro 2-1 in 9 innings, TTown beat Vandalia 4-1.
