Fire has heavily damaged the Dustin and Montel Fields home at 401 North Walnut Street in Centralia.

Centralia city fire officials say they had left about a half hour before the fire was discovered in the kitchen late Friday afternoon.   Firemen were able to make entry through the front of the home and work their way to the kitchen in the rear which was engulfed in flames.   While the fire was contained to the kitchen, there was heavy smoke and heat damage throughout the home.

The cause of the fire remains under investigation.

While there were no human injuries, two birds and three dogs perished in the fire.

The fire alarm came in at 4:45 Friday afternoon.  Firemen were on the scene for about three hours.  All available Centralia City Firemen were called to the scene and the Centralia Fire Protection District provided mutual aide assistance.   Sandoval firemen stood by at the Centralia City Fire Station in the event of another fire.
