The Centralia City Council gets two new members when it reorganizes Monday night following the April 4th election. Isreal ‘Izzy’ Fontanez and Barri Allen will be seated to four-year terms, replacing Robert ‘Spanky’ Smith and Blake Griffin who did not seek re-election. Bryan Kuder ran unopposed for a four-year term for Mayor.
After approving the minutes, payrolls, and vouchers, the current city council will adjourn for the final time. Mayor Kuder and the two new councilmen will then take the oath of office. Later in the agenda, the council will be asked to approve Rob Jackson as Mayor Pro Tem in the event Mayor Kuder cannot preside over a meeting or event. Members of the council will also be asked to take the Civility Pledge being recommended for all city and village governments in the state.
The council will be asked to approve a bid from Rooters Asphalt for resurfacing a portion of Country Club Road from Marilyn Avenue/South Lakewood Drive to Meadow Lane at a cost of $66,315.
The council will open bids on five vacant lots earlier cleared of substandard housing. They are at 215 West 3rd, 614 and 614 and a half South Pine, 825 East Rexford, 615 North Lincoln, and 908 North Elm.
The council will consider adding a stop sign on Gary Street at its intersection with Monroe and on Mound Street at its intersection with Monroe Street.
The council will be asked to approve a resolution with Speedway LLC for corrective action within the city right of way located at 638 West Broadway. The site is a former gas station that has leaking underground storage tanks and is undergoing remediation required by the Illinois Environmental Protection Agency.
The meeting begins at six Monday night at Centralia City Hall.
