Voegele Dominates As #1 Ranked Columbia Gets Win At Salem

Kansas recruit Dominic Voegele did t with his arm and with his bat yesterday leading #1 ranked Columbia to a 7-2 win at Salem.  Voegele allowed 4 singles on the day and 2 earned runs while striking out 14 Wildcats and only walking 1.  At the plate, he went 4-4 with 2 long home runs including one off the equipment shed in deep left-center field.  He scored 3 runs and drove in 2.  Salem’s singles came from Gavin Zimmerman who drove in a run, Isaak Williams had 2 hits and an RBI, Noah Nix singled along with Drew Davis.  Griffin Day deserved better as the senior was solid on the mound and pitched well enough to keep the Cats in the game.  The right hander went 6.1 allowing 9 hits and 6 runs with 3 strikeouts.  Salem is off until tomorrow when they travel to Freeburg.

The Salem JV fell on the road at Columbia 10-0 in five innings.  Salem only had 2 hits on the day.  Colten Shelton and Cody Beard singled.  Sam Donald was the winning pitcher for the Eagles going all 5 allowing 2 hits and striking out 6.  Rhett Detering and Cooper Lobek pitched for the Cats in the loss.
