The Blue Devils Baseball team traveled to Southeastern Illinois College in Harrisburg, on Saturday the 22nd looking to get back in the winning column against the Falcons who handed the Blue Devils a home loss on Wednesday of last week. Game one was started by Freshman Jude Tenny and he notched seven strikeouts in the first five innings of the competition. Freshman relievers Hayden Brazelton and Mason Barnes combined to finish the last four innings and the Blue Devils won 16-7 with help from a home run from Sophomore Kenny Sugi and a truckload of RBIs from several other Blue Devils. In game two KC’s bats kept right on rolling, doing what was needed in support of starter Nile Adcock. The Freshman hurler went six strong innings allowing five runs on eight hits with seven strikeouts. He was lifted for Sophomore reliever Clayton Taylor who finished the 7th inning to secure the second win of the day for the Blue Devils, 10-7. Tomorrow, on Tuesday the 25th, KC will play Rend Lake here at home in a doubleheader with game times of 12:00pm and 3:00pm.
For the Blue Angels Saturday saw them make their way to Mt. Carmel for two seven inning sets against the Wabash Valley Warriors. The Blue Angels took care of their business and beat the Warriors in game one by a final of 5-3. Freshman Karlie McKenzie turned in another great pitching performance tossing a complete game four hitter again the Warriors, striking out 14 in her seven innings pitched. Sophomore Mikayla Healy belted a home run and RBIs were also added by fellow Sophomores Ivy Smart, Josie Grunloh, and by Freshman Ashlyn Colvis and Macey Lentz. Game two was again a close contest with Wabash, but similarly the Blue Angels came away with the victory in a final score of 5-4. Sophomore Ivy Smart took the ball and threw seven solid innings, giving up only four runs on six hits from the circle.
Sunday might be a day of rest for some, but not for the Blue Angels. The team had three games against Southeastern Illinois College to play, as one contest was a make-up from a past doubleheader that was postponed earlier this season due to a storm. In all three games at SIC each member of the team showed up and contributed to sweep the day’s action winning 10-4, 4-3, and 6-5. Ivy Smart and Mikayla Healy went yard with three home runs combined and Ivy, along with Karlie McKenzie held the SIC Falcons at bay, allowing the Blue Angels to extend their winning streak to six games. The team has a well-deserved day off today, but will be back on the diamond Tuesday the 25th at Frontier Community College for two games against the Bobcats at 2:00pm and 4:00pm.
There are several more opportunities in the next two weeks to catch some KC bat and ball action, so keep watch for updates and schedule changes. Keep our student athletes in the back of your minds and if you can find some time to squeeze in a few innings in the next weeks do it! It is a fun and exciting time!
