Mt. Vernon Firemen say a small two story home was destroyed by fire Friday afternoon.
Fire officials say no one was at home at the residence at 706 South 25th Street when the fire was discovered around 2:37 Friday afternoon. The name of the occupants were not immediately available.
The State Fire Marshal’s office was called in to investigate the cause.
Mt. Vernon called Jefferson Fire Protection District to the scene, while Kell and Woodlawn Firemen stood by at the Mt. Vernon Fire Station in the event of another fire.
Firemen were on the scene for three hours. There were no injuries.
