Detering Solid In First Varsity Start, Salem Falls 2-1 On Walk-Off Single At St Anthony

Salem dropped to 1-4 on the season losing at Effingham St Anthony 2-1 in walk-off fashion.  The Bulldogs scored an unearned run in the fifth inning to break a scoreless tie.

Salem would tie the game on a Gavin Zimmermann RBI single, as the junior had 2 hits along with Noah Nix and Eli Rose.  Aden Susmena added a double and scored in his first game of the year.  On the mound, Salem sophomore Rhett Detering worked in his first career varsity game.  He went 5.2 innings allowing just 6 hits and no earned runs.  He was great.  Colton Shelton came in to finish the 6th inning and then started the 7th and was relieved by Noah Nix who entered with the bases loaded and one out and Eli Levitt sent the Bulldog fans home happy with a hit.

The Wildcats open up the Cahokia today with a home game against Breese Central starting at 4:30.

Central is coming off a 2-1 loss to Highland.  Chase Lewis had 2 hits and worked 5 innings on the mound giving up 2 unearned runs and 1 hit with 7 ks.
