Marion County remained at the low transmission level for COVID-19 for the week ending Wednesday, while Clay County became the only county in the state at the high level.
The CDC tracker reported 24 new or probable cases of COVID-19 reported in Marion County during the past week. That’s a 65 percent drop. New hospitalizations were not available.
Marion County Health Department Administrator Melissa Mallow reported no new COVID-19 deaths in the week ending on Thursday. She said two Marion County congregate care facilities remain on outbreak status. One facility has 11 positive cases and another 68 cases.
Clay County saw a big increase in cases sending them to the high community spread level. The county had 50 new cases, a 379 percent increase over the prior week. There was one new hospitalization.
Jefferson, Clinton, Washington, Fayette and Wayne Counties all remain at the low level. Jefferson County did see their number of new cases double in the past week to 41 with two new hospitalizations. Clinton County had 20 new cases, a nine-percent drop, and three new hospitalizations. Washington County had four new cases, a 60-percent drop, with new hospitalization information not available. Fayette County had an 18-percent drop in new cases to 13. There were two new hospitalizations. Wayne County had four new cases, a 60-percent drop, and one new hospitalization.
Statewide, only Clay County is at the high infection level. Eight other counties are at the medium level. The number of new cases for the week ending March 12th dropped to 8,966. There were 63 new COVID-19 related deaths reported statewide.
As of Thursday night, 824 were hospitalized with COVID-19. 107 were in ICU and 36 on ventilators.
