The special education coordinator at Summersville Grade School in Mt. Vernon has been named by Curriculum Associates to its 2023 Class of Extraordinary Educators.
Monica Maxey is one of 30 educators from 22 states selected for exhibiting best-in-class use of I-Ready to illustrate the growth and achievement of students. She was selected for demonstrating innovation and engagement practices for students and being an evangelist for high expectations and student achievement.
“The I-Ready online program offers the students an opportunity to take diagnostic tests three times a year and also provides individual instruction for the students. It gives teachers a way to monitor their progress and any deficit areas they should keep an eye on. And they can monitor how their success is with their skills on top of getting them direct instruction.”
Maxey says the information allows her to work with teachers on getting students back into the regular classroom setting.
The Vice President of Educator Community at Curriculum Associates Emily McCann says those named Extraordinary Educators are true rock stars. She says they are happy to recognize and celebrate Monica for her amazing work in the classroom and look forward to providing her with ongoing professional learning and networking opportunities to help her continue to grow her craft.
