After Saturday’s big win over Staunton 57-41, the Salem Wildcats will be back in action at the Wood River regional semifinal on Wednesday night when they play top-seed Greenville at 6pm. The winner will play for the regional title against the winner of Piasa and Roxana Friday night. In the win on Saturday, Salem got 17 points and 5 three’s off the bench from junior Gavin Zimmermann to help overcome an 11-4 first quarter deficit.
Also in 2a regional openers on Saturday, Mater Dei beat DuQuoin 64-37, Freeburg over Chester 71-48, Wesclin beat Althoff 71-48, Vandalia lost to Litchfield 69-59 and Roxana eliminated Wood River 45-44.
Also in 2a regional semifinals on Wednesday at Nashville it will be Breese Central and Wesclin followed by Nashville and Mater Dei. At Sparta, Columbia takes on Red Bud followed by Pinckneyville and Freeburg. At TTown, the hosts Shoes play Shelbyville followed by Robinson and Flora.
