The South Central 1a regional is loaded with tons of talented teams fighting for the right to advance to the Altamont Sectional. Let’s start with the 4th ranked Christ Our Rock Stallions who blew through the regular season at 28-1 and with that record it was still only good enough for the 2 seed in the sub-section that also includes 2nd ranked Altamont who enters at 24-4 and just had an 18-game win streak snapped. The Stallions will open with 15th seed Red Hill, but after that the Stallions will be tested the rest of the post season.
They will get the winner of #7 Cisne and the host #6 SC. The Cougars have a narrow victory over the Lions earlier this season, but both teams enter with 20 wins and will be a battle down to the wire. SC is coming off back-to-back 20 win seasons for the first time since the 08 and 09 season’s under Hall Of Fame coach Gary Shirley.
The other two favorites to raise the trophy are 3rd seed Effingham St Anthony and 5th seed Louisville. The Bulldogs and Cardinals have battled this year several times and will be very familiar with each other by the time their semifinal matchup possibly comes. The Bulldogs will open with Sandoval and along with Christ Our Rock, may feature the best collection of 5 starters. However, the best player in the tournament may just be North Clay senior Logan Fleener who has put his team in a position to be able to play with anyone this season for coach Josh Zink.
If you like high school basketball, the place to be starting next week may just be South Central High School.
